Here's something interesting. Samuel French posts on its website the places a play will be performed. That is, the places that have the rights to perform a particular play. Starting next Friday when we start previews, there will only be two places on the planet that have the rights to perform Hello and Goodbye. So unless you're planning on going to Poland any time soon, reserve your tickets to see this dynamic early work of Athol Fugard.

     BLUEBIRD ARTS ANNOUNCES HELLO AND GOODBYE AS FINAL PRODUCTION OF 2014-15

CHICAGO, IL-March 25, 2015 - Bluebird Arts, a new Non-Equity theatre founded by Luda Lopatina Solomon, is proud to announce Hello and Goodbye, by Athol Fugard, as their final production of its 2014-15 Season. Solomon will direct. There will be two productions, one in English and one in Russian, with the full details of the Russian production to be announced at a later date.

It's 1965 in the white slums of Port Elizabeth, South Africa. Hello and Goodbye is the story of Johnny and Hester Smit, a brother and sister. Johnny has been looking after his father, a former railway worker who was disabled in an explosion. Hester, Johnny's older sister, returns after a 15-year estrangement. As one of Fugard's early works, Hello and Goodbye is largely apolitical, more focusing on family dynamics and the feelings of what one is "owed." Bluebird Arts’ production will feature Jaimelyn Gray as Hester Smit, and Aaron Lawson as Johnny Smit. The Production Team includes Carl Ulaszek (Lighting and Set Design), Rick Sims and Brandon Reed (Sound Design), Diane Robinson (Dialect Coaching), Rachel Boylan (Costume Design), Kirk Anderson (Fight Choreography), and Anna Lafontant (Stage Management).

Founded in 2014, Bluebird Arts is a nonprofit organization whose purpose is to enrich, educate and entertain our community by sharing intimate stories of the human condition, focusing on the genuine problems of real people. Bluebird Arts showcases Chicago's talent by promoting cross cultural exchange, taking Chicago theatre and artists to Europe and bringing European theatre, to the Chicago community. They serve both the English and Russian speaking populations by producing plays in both English and Russian and translating English language plays into Russian and Russian language plays into English.
 
Bluebird Arts will continue to collaborate with Russian arts organizations such as Theatre Volhonka in Ekatirenburg, Russia.
